Beginner class with Derrick and Erin

Lindy HopLindy hop originated in the African American community of Harlem around the 1930s. It is danced to big band music of the swing era and is known as a joyful dance. It is an energetic dance that is fun for dancers of all ages!
Beginner
This class is for new dancers who are unfamiliar with lindy hop (swing dancing). Over the course of a month, you will learn the fundamentals for 6-count and/or 8-count lindy hop. We teach the basic footwork at the start of each class so feel free to drop-in at anytime during the month!
Intermediate
.This class is for dancers who have taken both 6-count and 8-count lindy hop and are ready to start combining the two.
Pre-requisites: At least 3 months of beginner classes. Comfortable with the following moves: 6 count basic, tuck turn, send out, inside pass, outside turn (from open), 6 count circle, 8 count basic, circle from closed, follow goes, lead goes, promenade, walls and some experience with swing out from closed, swing out from open. Ready to combine 6 & 8 count. Advanced
This class emphasizes technique, partner connection and expanding your dance vocabulary. A solid foundation in 6-count and 8-count lindy hop is a must as these foundational moves will not be broken down in class.
Pre-requisites: Comfortable with swingouts and combining 6 and 8 count moves while social dancing. |
Intermediate Charleston class with Derrick and Erin

CHarlestonA popular dance in the 1920's, partner Charleston may be taught in any of our 3 levels. This dance is known for kicking legs and swinging arms and is often danced at higher tempos.

BalboaBalboa is characterized by a close embrace and shuffling steps. There are variations in this dance that include pure-bal and bal swing. With smaller steps and closer connection this dance is perfect for quicker tempos or for when space is limited on the dance floor.
Pre-requisites: No pre-reqs for beginner. Experience required for Intermediate. |

ShagCollegiate Shag is a partner dancer that originated in the 1930s. Traditionally danced in a closed position, the dance is known for its hopping basic step and high energy footwork that separates it from other forms of swing dancing.

BluesBlues dancing is an umbrella term for a family of historical and modern dances done to blues music. Rooted in African movement, blues dancing places a high value on improvisation, rhythm, polyrhythm, and solo movements.
Fusion/blues classes start at 9 pm in the back room. These classes are included with admission! |

RoutinesRoutines classes are designed for intermediate dancers who would like to get a taste of choreography. In 4 weeks, you will learn a short routine with the option to perform it at the end of the month!
Pre-requisites: Must be an intermediate level dancer or above. No drop-ins after Week 2. |
